Bloor-Annex Brass Ensemble, Featuring Soloist Robert Conquer, Presents a Unique Musical Journey

Prepare for an extraordinary musical experience as the Bloor-Annex Brass Ensemble gears up for their upcoming performance on March 12, showcasing an eclectic repertoire that promises to captivate audiences.

Under the direction of Ilan Mendel and Dominic Ghiglione, the Artistic Directors of the ensemble, this group of talented musicians will demonstrate the vibrant spectrum of sounds achievable with a combination of six trumpets, three trombones, a euphonium, and two bass trombones, all hailing from the University of Toronto or Glenn Gould School.

Joining them as a guest soloist is none other than Robert Conquer, a trombonist of remarkable talent and accolades. Hailing from Scarborough, Ontario, Conquer clinched the prestigious top award of the 2022 Michael Measures prizes, following a second-place finish in the previous year’s competition. His exceptional abilities also earned him the top prize at the Orchestre Symphonique de Montréal Competition in 2020.

A Presser Scholar at the Curtis Institute of Music, Conquer graduated with a Bachelor’s of Music degree in 2023. His musical journey has seen him appointed as the Principal Trombonist of the Canadian Opera Company Orchestra for the 2023/24 season, making him the youngest regular musician in the organization’s history.
