The Maine Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum invites high school students across the state to participate in its eagerly anticipated third annual Student Guitar Competition. The competition offers a platform for aspiring young musicians to showcase their talent, with a chance to win a prestigious grand prize – a Martin guitar generously donated by Northern Kingdom Music in Bangor.

Interested high school students from Maine are encouraged to submit a video of their guitar performance by March 1, which will be evaluated by a panel of esteemed judges comprising members of the Maine Country Music Hall of Fame executive board. The winner of the competition will be unveiled at the 47th Annual Induction Ceremony scheduled for Sunday, May 19, at the Silver Spur in Mechanic Falls.

Contestants are required to select and perform three country music pieces on the guitar. The judging criteria will encompass evaluating the participants’ skill level, their ability to play in different keys, and the expression of phrasing in their performances. Video entries should be submitted on a thumb drive or DVD.

The Maine Country Music Hall of Fame, established in 1978, stands as the sole physical museum east of Nashville dedicated to preserving the rich heritage of country music. Housed in a 3,000-square-foot space in the lower level of the Silver Spur, the museum showcases an extensive collection of historic memorabilia accumulated over the decades. This collection brings to life and preserves the legacy of over 150 inductees from various regions across Maine. The museum, a year-round treasure trove, is open by appointment.

Mark your calendars for the 47th Annual Induction Ceremony on May 19 at the Silver Spur, where new inductees will be honored. The event promises a vibrant concert featuring Hall of Fame inductees and living legends, culminating in a special performance by the winner of the Student Guitar Competition. It’s an evening that celebrates the past, present, and future of Maine’s rich country music heritage.
