On January 12 at 9:00 PM, The Bricks will host the mesmerizing Liu Peiyi Jazz Quintet, featuring the exceptionally talented jazz saxophonist Liu Peiyi. Currently based in the United States, Liu Peiyi brings a wealth of musical expertise and experience to the stage.

Liu Peiyi, a Jazz Sax Player and holder of a Doctorate in Jazz Studies, embarked on his musical journey in 2010 when he was admitted to the prestigious Berklee College of Music. Under the tutelage of renowned mentors such as George Garzone, Ed Tomassi, Halcrook, and Dr. Shannon le Clair, Liu Peiyi honed his skills, earning a bachelor’s degree in jazz saxophone performance in 2013.

In 2014, Liu Peiyi showcased his artistry by recording and releasing his debut album, “15 Years,” in Boston. His dedication to musical excellence led him to the New England School of Music in 2017, where he further enriched his knowledge under the guidance of world-famous saxophonist Gerry Bergozi, Grammy Award-winning Donny McCasling, the esteemed Mark Tuner, Miguel Zenon, and jazz trumpet educator John McNeil. Liu Peiyi also delved into jazz composition with Ken Schaphorst and Frank Carlberg, rounding off his academic pursuits with a master’s degree in jazz saxophone performance in 2019. During this time, he recorded his second original album, “Flow of Soul.”

As a seasoned professional saxophonist, Liu Peiyi collaborates with international musicians, showcasing his prowess on renowned stages. Notably, in 2019, he performed alongside the legendary contemporary jazz bassist Dave Holland at the Brown Hall in Boston. His impressive resume includes collaborations with esteemed musicians like Wealter Beasley, Gerry Bergunzig, Karlode Rossa, John David, George W Russian Jr, Will Slater, Marko Dordjevic, Mark Shilansky, and Christian Li.

Beyond his performances, Liu Peiyi actively contributes to music education. He has conducted saxophone lectures and concerts in several conservatories in China, including Zhejiang Conservatory of Music, Sichuan Conservatory of Music, Xi’an Conservatory of Music, Xinjiang Conservatory of Music, Jinan University Conservatory of Music, and Beijing Midi School of Music. Many of his students have achieved success, securing scholarships to prestigious institutions like Berklee College of Music and the Prince Claude Conservatory in the Netherlands.
