One of the distinctive features of the Central Arizona Flute Ensemble is their repertoire of flute instruments, ranging from the traditional piccolo to the rare and awe-inspiring 10-foot-long contrabass flute. During the performance, attendees will not only savor the melodies but also gain insights into the world of flutes, composers, and diverse musical styles.

Leslie Etzel, the CAFE Manager, expressed the ensemble’s commitment to fostering a deeper connection with the audience, stating, “We mindfully disregard the classical concert tradition of keeping the audience at a distance. Instead, we actively engage with our listeners. For example, rather than a printed program, we take turns standing up to introduce our music with interesting tidbits and a bit of humor. People see our faces, hear our voices, and connect with us during the Q&A session.”

Etzel further revealed an interactive element to this particular concert, where two flutes will be passed among the audience, allowing attendees to hold the instrument and manipulate the keys, creating a more tactile and immersive experience.

Formed in 2014, the Central Arizona Flute Ensemble has delighted audiences at 95 venues across metro Phoenix, including prestigious locations such as the Desert Botanical Garden, art galleries, senior communities, libraries, Tempe History Museum, Mesa Art Center, and Arizona Broadway Theatre. The upcoming concert at Theater Works marks their debut performance at this esteemed venue.

The Central Arizona Flute Ensemble is dedicated to presenting interactive concerts and educational programs that highlight the rich diversity within the flute family. This forthcoming performance in Peoria promises to be a musical journey that resonates with both flute enthusiasts and music lovers alike.
