MARIETTA, Ohio (WTAP) — The Marietta Chapter of the Sons of the Revolution has announced the formation of a new Fife and Drum Corps.
The Fort Harmar Fife and Drum Corps will feature local musicians of all ages and will perform at major events and parades throughout the city.
According to Yost, a member of the group, the fife and drum have historically played a vital role in military life. “The fifers and drummers led the army, directing movements and keeping soldiers’ spirits up,” he said. “They provided both guidance and entertainment, from waking soldiers in the morning to putting them to bed at night.”
The idea for the corps has been in the works for several years, but it was solidified after the community responded enthusiastically to a fife and drum corps performance from Michigan.
For those interested in joining, the Sons of the Revolution will hold a meeting on June 10 at 6 p.m. at the Ronnie W. Davis Memorial Post 5108, located at 319 Pike St. in Marietta.
