London-based concert pianist Ronojit Bhuyan is set to perform a solo piano recital, paying tribute to renowned composer Dmitri Shostakovich. The performance will feature both his solo piano and chamber music works, showcasing Bhuyan’s skill and passion for classical music.
Bhuyan, currently pursuing a Masters in Piano Performance at the prestigious Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance, London, has quickly gained recognition for his talent. He is studying under the guidance of esteemed pianists Gabriele Baldocci and Mikhail Kazakevich. For his academic achievements, Bhuyan received the Trinity College London Scholarship (TCL) for the 2022-24 academic years.
The pianist has already made his mark with several notable accomplishments. In 2023, he won the John Halford competition and earned second prize at the Gladys Puttick competition for improvisation at Trinity Laban. Since moving to London in 2022, Bhuyan has performed over 20 concerts, both solo and collaborative, at venues across the UK. Some of the prominent locations include St. James’s Piccadilly, the Lansdowne Club in Mayfair, The Polish Hearth Club in Kensington, and the Royal St. Katharine.
During the COVID-19 lockdown, Bhuyan continued to engage with audiences. Along with his mother, renowned violinist Sunita Bhuyan, he performed over 75 online concerts, which were streamed on various platforms such as Rolling Stones India, Amazon, NDTV Live, Hungama Music Festival, Better India, and Stage Arts Live.
Bhuyan’s musical journey began with undergraduate studies in Music at Trinity College London (Diploma-LTCL) and Psychology at St. Xavier’s College in Mumbai. His career as a pianist and accompanist has allowed him to perform with a wide range of instruments, including the organ and harpsichord. He also works as a private piano teacher, with a strong focus on pedagogy.
His performances extend beyond classical music. Bhuyan has worked with crossover artists, including jazz saxophonist Yati Durant from Edinburgh, Grammy-winning Mohan Veena player Vishwa Mohan Bhatt, Gaelic violinist Alan Henderson, and Indonesian harpist Maya Hasan. His international performances include events such as Vibrant Gujarat, Beyond Boundaries at the Edinburgh Mela, and the Kala Ghoda Festival in Mumbai.
In addition to his performances, Bhuyan has appeared on various news channels and television broadcasts. In December 2023, he was interviewed by Trinity College London, where he discussed his journey to London and the significance of graded music exams.
Bhuyan credits much of his artistic development to his mentorship from his mother and grandmother, both renowned violinists. Their guidance in the Indian classical music tradition has greatly influenced his approach to creativity and spontaneity, enriching his musical performances across genres.
