Oasis legends Liam and Noel Gallagher have donated a signed guitar to a charity auction supporting grassroots music venues and projects throughout Manchester. The announcement comes ahead of the band’s highly anticipated hometown performances this July.
The guitar, an Epiphone Riviera autographed by both brothers, will be the star attraction of the auction. It is currently on display at Selfridges Manchester Exchange Square and will remain there for the duration of the summer. The auction itself is scheduled for September as part of Music for the Senses—a city-wide, guitar-themed event series.
This initiative coincides with Manchester Live 25, a sprawling celebration of the city’s rich musical heritage. The three-month event is expected to attract over 1.3 million music fans globally. Oasis’s headlining shows at Heaton Park are set to be the centerpiece of the festival.
“We’re delighted to donate this guitar signed by Liam and Noel to help support Manchester’s grassroots music projects and kickstart the series of celebrations,” an Oasis spokesperson said.
The signed Epiphone Riviera will be featured in a broader art installation—a guitar-themed trail comprising instruments donated by musicians and the general public. Professional artists will transform these guitars into unique artworks to be displayed in various public spaces, shops, and venues throughout July and August. These pieces will later be auctioned to raise funds for music initiatives.
Music for the Senses will also bring a host of musical attractions to the city, including impromptu performances, music-themed markets, pop-up shops, and a festival bar. One highlight will be Guitar Street, an interactive installation by Manchester artist Liam Hopkins (aka Lazarian), constructed from over 100 broken guitars.
Councillor Bev Craig, Leader of Manchester City Council, praised the Gallagher brothers’ contribution, calling it “an incredible” gesture. She emphasized the importance of the summer’s programming.
“This promises to be the summer of all summers in Manchester as we get set to welcome music fans from every part of the globe for a massive three months of nonstop live music,” Craig said. “A huge thank you also to Liam and Noel for getting behind our end-of-summer guitar auction to help up-and-coming young artists.”
