At Superbooth 2025, Vermona introduced its latest creation, the DrumDing—an innovative six-track analog drum machine that departs from conventional designs with a standout voice sampling concept. Unlike most drum machines that rely on digital samples or synth-based sound generation triggered by sequencers, the DrumDing offers a fresh and original approach that blends analog synthesis with an unusual sampling workflow.
At the core of the DrumDing is an analog drum voice built around a VCO, frequency modulation, a multimode filter, a mixer with envelopes, and a master section. Vermona reveals that part of the voice circuitry draws inspiration from their well-known DRM1 Mk4 drum module. Rather than triggering the analog voice directly with a sequencer as is typical, DrumDing first samples the analog sound and then converts it into a playable sample. If users wish to alter or adjust the sound, they must re-sample it entirely, making the process both deliberate and creatively distinct.
This sampling-first design may not appeal to every user, but it offers a new workflow that stands apart in the landscape of drum machines. The DrumDing’s six-track sequencer supports up to 64 projects, with each project containing 16 user samples and full sequencing for all six tracks. Each track can span up to 64 steps and includes advanced features such as probability, micro-timing, parameter locks, polyrhythmic sequencing, independent track lengths, and directional playback options.
Adding to its creative potential, the DrumDing includes built-in digital effects, such as pitch shifter, dual delays, bit crusher, and reverb. These effects can be sequenced and modulated, giving users the ability to shape and evolve their sounds dynamically.
The Vermona DrumDing presents a compelling and unconventional take on the drum machine format and was noted as one of the standout products at Superbooth 2025. It is expected to be available by the end of the year, with pricing details yet to be announced.
