The 27th Seoul Drum Festival returns on May 10–11, transforming Nodeul Island into a dynamic celebration of rhythm, soul, and global connection. Under the heartfelt theme “Touch My Soul,” this year’s festival, hosted by the Seoul Metropolitan Government, promises a vibrant mix of world-class performances, interactive experiences, and hands-on workshops—all free to the public.
A major highlight is the “Seoul March 25” parade, showcasing 25 percussion teams and 200 citizens who have been training together for four months. This dynamic parade will take place on both days, with spontaneous participation encouraged for anyone feeling the beat. Supporting the celebration, over 100 volunteers, affectionately called “Drum Fans,” will assist in running the event smoothly.
The international lineup features renowned drummers such as Sonny Emory (former drummer of Earth, Wind & Fire), Kashikura Takashi from Japan’s post-rock band Toe, Argentina’s Mariana Baraj, and leading Korean percussionists. Audiences can expect genre-blending collaborations that mix post-rock, traditional Korean sounds, and jazz for a truly global fusion.
Also gracing the stages will be jazz rising star Kim Ye-chan, blind marimbist Jeon Kyung-ho, and 2024 Drummer of the Year SHINDRUM. The festival is rich with family-friendly offerings, including build-your-own-instrument challenges, drum circles, digital rhythm games, and eco-friendly percussion crafts made from upcycled materials—running daily from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. throughout the island.
Music lovers can further immerse themselves through specialized workshops and masterclasses led by international percussion experts, offering a deeper appreciation of the art. Events will take place across several venues including the Festival Stage (outdoors), the Yamaha Drum Stage (indoors), and various locations on Nodeul Island.
With rhythm at its heart and community in its soul, the 2025 Seoul Drum Festival invites everyone to feel the beat and join a truly global celebration.
