The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is set to present Bruce Liu Plays Prokofiev at the Orpheum Theatre on May 30 and 31 at 8:00 PM as part of its Masterworks Gold series, and again on June 1 at 2:00 PM under the RGF Integrated Wealth Management Symphony Sundays banner.
Renowned pianist Bruce Liu, celebrated for winning the 2021 International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw, will take the stage alongside VSO Music Director Otto Tausk. Together, they will perform Sergei Prokofiev’s dazzling Piano Concerto No. 3 in C major. Liu, born in Paris and raised in Montréal, has gained international acclaim as a recitalist, having performed at prestigious venues such as BOZAR in Brussels, Wigmore Hall in London, Philharmonie de Paris, and Tokyo Opera City.
The concert program also features two additional works. Audiences will embark on a thrilling musical journey with Richard Strauss’s majestic An Alpine Symphony, and experience Swim, a vibrant piece by London-based Canadian composer Cassandra Miller.
These performances promise an unforgettable blend of virtuosity, drama, and modern innovation for Vancouver’s classical music lovers.
