Liverpudlian pianist and winner of Channel 4’s The Piano, Brad Kella, is set to begin his highly anticipated tour at Glasgow’s Oran Mor on September 16.

The tour announcement follows exciting news about his debut album Phoebe’s Melody, which is scheduled for release on June 6. Kella’s rise to prominence began after his victory on The Piano, where he impressed renowned pianists Lang Lang and Mika. Since then, he has signed with independent label Modern Sky, performed at the prestigious Classic FM Live at the Royal Albert Hall, and sold out Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall with his own show.

Citing cinematic greats like Danny Elfman and Hans Zimmer, alongside neo-classical maestro Ludovico Einaudi, Brad shared his excitement about the upcoming album: “The album is something I’m so proud of. It’s sounding much bigger and better than I could have anticipated. Each piece is a reflection of a moment in my life, a step-by-step musical illustration.”

Known for his distinctive approach, Kella deliberately avoids reading sheet music to preserve the authenticity and spontaneity of his performances. “If I read music, that means I’m sat in front of someone else’s music, which immediately takes away huge amounts of creativity in the process,” he explained. “It puts me under immense pressure when I have to go on for a concert in front of thousands with no music in front of me. I think the pressure of it sparks amazing moments during the performance. Sometimes I’ll change a certain melody on the spot, and no one is expecting it.”

Before launching his own tour, Brad is currently on the road supporting Gary Barlow across the UK. He’s set to perform at Glasgow’s SEC Armadillo on May 26 and 27.
