Cold Chisel guitarist and co-vocalist Ian Moss has announced a strict no-phone policy for his upcoming national tour, Ian Moss + Trio: One Guitar One Night Only, set to begin in Brisbane tomorrow.
In a statement released via social media, Moss’s team emphasized the goal of creating the best possible atmosphere for both performers and fans. “To ensure the best possible experience for everyone – both the audience and the artists – photography and video recording will not be permitted during the performance,” the announcement read.
The statement noted that while previous shows adopted a more relaxed stance, recent audience feedback about distractions prompted a shift in approach. “In the past, we’ve taken a relaxed approach, but following feedback about disruptions, we’ve changed our policy. Venue staff have been briefed and will help us enforce this policy. There will be no exceptions.”
Fans attending the tour are being urged to turn off their phones and fully immerse themselves in the live experience. “We kindly ask you to respect the performers, fellow concertgoers, and the atmosphere by switching off phones and other devices for the duration of the show. Be present and enjoy the performance with your eyes,” the post added.
The decision drew a mixed response online. Many applauded the move, describing it as a return to the true essence of live performance. “This is awesome! How it should be! Rock on,” one supporter wrote. Another echoed, “The way it used to be, good on ya!” A third chimed in with, “All venues should do this.”
However, not all were in agreement. Some fans expressed disappointment at not being able to capture brief moments. “While I think this is a cool move, I also think people should be able to record a short video of their favourite songs!” one commenter suggested.
Despite the debate, Moss and his team remain committed to prioritizing the live concert experience over digital distractions.
