The 19th Chopin Competition has revealed the 85 participants who will compete for the prestigious prizes, following the conclusion of the preliminary rounds earlier this month at the Warsaw Philharmonic. The competition is open to pianists born between 1995 and 2009.
The jury, chaired by Professor Piotr Paleczny, selected 66 pianists who will return to Warsaw in October 2025 for the next stage of the competition. Additionally, 19 performers have been granted direct entry to Stage I, bypassing the preliminary rounds. These pianists are laureates of distinguished competitions such as those held in Leeds, Tel Aviv, Miami, Bolzano, Hamamatsu, as well as the Paderewski International Piano Competition in Bydgoszcz, and the Fryderyk Chopin National Piano Competition in Warsaw.
The competition will culminate in a grand awards gala and laureate concert on October 21, 2025, at the Great Theatre National Opera. The first-place winner will receive €60,000, with second place earning €40,000, third place €35,000, fourth place €30,000, fifth place €25,000, and sixth place €20,000. The remaining finalists will each receive €8,000.
Following the competition, the laureates will perform at renowned concert venues across Europe, Asia, and the Americas, in collaboration with the Fryderyk Chopin Institute and the Liu Kotow agency.
The distinguished jury for the competition includes renowned pianists such as Garrick Ohlsson (chair), John Allison, Yulianna Avdeeva, Michel Béroff, Chen Sa, Dang Thai Son, Akiko Ebi, Nelson Goerner, Krzysztof Jabłoński, Momo Kodama, Kevin Kenner, Robert McDonald, Piotr Paleczny, Ewa Pobłocka, Katarzyna Popowa-Zydroń, John Rink, and Wojciech Świtała.
