Renowned Chinese pianist Yundi Li, famously known as the “Piano Prince,” is set to perform in Kuala Lumpur on June 24 as part of his Mozart World Tour Solo Concert. This long-awaited event will take place at Dewan Filharmonik PETRONAS, Malaysia’s premier concert hall designed specifically for classical music performances — marking his first return to the country in 13 years.
Yundi Li holds a distinguished place in the global classical music scene. He was the first Chinese pianist to win the International Chopin Piano Competition, also becoming the youngest winner in the history of the prestigious event. Additionally, he was the first Chinese pianist signed by the iconic classical music label Deutsche Grammophon (DG). Over his 25-year career, Li has remained at the forefront of classical piano, consistently pushing boundaries and exploring the deep beauty of music with unwavering passion.
Li shared that the tour represents a return to his roots, saying:
“I want to return to my beginnings. Mozart has always been the source of my musical inspiration. I was enchanted by his music when I was just seven years old.”
With this performance, he aims to reconnect global audiences with what he calls “the most ingenious compositions, full of colorful and humanistic tones.” To achieve this, he even returned to Mozarteum in Salzburg — Mozart’s birthplace — to record music that reflects his most personal artistic expressions.
The Mozart World Tour began in Australia and has already made stops in iconic cities tied to Mozart’s legacy, including Vienna, Paris, Munich, Frankfurt, Cologne, and Berlin. The tour also coincides with the release of a commemorative album of the same name, recorded last year to promote the global concert series.
Yundi Li’s performances have sparked a classical music wave across the globe. He has graced legendary venues such as the Vienna Musikverein, Sydney Opera House, and Carnegie Hall in New York. His journey has spanned continents — from Japan’s Mito, Fuji, Tokyo, Osaka, Kodaira, and Sapporo, to Singapore, and numerous German cities like Freiburg, Heilbronn, Reutlingen, Sigmaringen, Göttingen, Hanau, Würzburg, Bad Neustadt, and Frankfurt.
He has also performed in Bamberg, Vienna, Munich, Paris, Berlin, Offenbach, Düsseldorf, Basel, Essen, Cologne, and Bremen — lighting up each city with packed concerts and reigniting global enthusiasm for classical music.
With this much-anticipated stop in Malaysia, Yundi Li is set to deliver yet another unforgettable night of Mozart’s genius, interpreted through his signature poetic and expressive style.
