The rising electronic duo, known as M42, takes their name from the Orion Nebula, also called Messier 42—a vast cosmic nursery where new stars are born. According to NASA, it’s an immense cloud of gas and dust. In Mayan mythology, this celestial wonder was seen as the “fire of creation,” the divine birthplace of existence, where gods sparked the first flame to begin the world.
This mythological and astronomical symbolism fuels M42’s artistry, transforming the essence of cosmic creation into high-powered electronic music. Their new track, “Gimme That Dirty,” channels that energy into a fiery burst of drum & bass that’s both atmospheric and aggressive.
Crafted for maximum intensity, the single features spacey synth textures that weave over a tight, relentless drumline. The bass, sharp and searing, cuts through the mix like barbed wire—leaving a lasting impact.
“Gimme That Dirty” drops during a high point for M42. Based out of Los Angeles and Austin, the duo has recently shared the stage with DVBBS at The Concourse Project and performed at the rooftop sessions hosted by Spinnin’ Records and Kanary Records during last year’s SXSW festival.
