Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue joined forces with Tank and the Bangas for a two-night event at the historic Capitol Theatre in Port Chester, NY, this past weekend.
The two iconic New Orleans bands are currently on the road together, sharing the vibrant sounds of their hometown across the U.S. as part of Trombone Shorty’s Shorty Gras tour, which kicked off in Burlington, VT on Thursday, just two days after Mardi Gras.
While both groups hail from New Orleans, each brings a unique sound to the stage. Tank and the Bangas blend R&B, soul, and hip-hop, while Trombone Shorty and his band infuse traditional New Orleans brass with funk and psychedelic rock, offering a dynamic pairing that highlights both the city’s rich musical history and its evolving artistic scene.
The celebration of their shared roots at The Capitol Theatre on Friday and Saturday featured a lively mix of brass and soul, with the bands collaborating and exchanging musical ideas in front of an enthusiastic audience.
The Shorty Gras tour continues throughout March, with upcoming shows in Ohio, Indiana, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Texas. For full tour dates and to purchase tickets, visit the official websites of Trombone Shorty and Tank and the Bangas.
