BFD Drums has announced the release of BFD 3.5, marking the latest evolution of FXpansion’s flagship acoustic drum studio software. According to a company spokesperson, this new version takes virtual drumming to an unprecedented level by offering enhanced realism, precision, and control. The update introduces an expanded core library, mix-ready presets, and advanced drum modeling, while also providing seamless support for Apple Silicon AAX and VST3. These improvements aim to deliver a more dynamic and customizable drum production experience than ever before.
Building on its reputation as a premier drum production tool, BFD 3.5 introduces an upgraded engine with industry-leading features designed to elevate realism and sonic customization. The software now includes a redesigned workflow that enhances precision and flexibility, allowing musicians and producers to create drum tracks with greater depth. Among its key improvements are newly developed kits, advanced modeling technology for tom resonance and cymbal swells, and a selection of mix-ready presets. The interface has also been reworked, featuring a new mixer and sound browser that simplifies navigation and overall usability.
The latest version of BFD brings additional functionality tailored to meet the needs of professional musicians and producers. With Apple Silicon AAX support and cross-platform VST3 compatibility, the software ensures seamless performance across Mac and Windows systems. A new Microphone Inspector panel has been introduced, allowing users to adjust microphone placements with precision. The update also enhances parameter controls, giving users the ability to fine-tune every aspect of their drum kits.
BFD 3.5 comes equipped with a core library containing 51 drum kits, covering a wide range of genres from rock to jazz to metal. It also includes 60 mix-ready preset BFD kits, each featuring custom parameters, articulations, and effects for instantly polished sounds. The Drum Editor has been enhanced with new tech, model, and mic sections, enabling users to fine-tune each drum’s tuning, damping, and mic placement. Additionally, 82 Groove Palettes and multiple professionally crafted grooves add a human feel and realism to drum tracks. Built-in mixing tools provide access to 48 high-quality audio effects, including 13 from AIR Music Tech, offering professional-grade drum processing capabilities. A newly introduced microphone panel further refines multi-mic control, allowing users to adjust individual microphone levels and placements with ease.
The revamped graphical user interface presents improved navigation, updated icons, and enhanced readability, making it more intuitive for users. Alongside these changes, the software is optimized for Apple Silicon AAX and VST3 support, ensuring smooth operation across different platforms.
BFD 3.5 is available for both macOS and Windows, supporting AU, VST, VST3, and AAX formats.
