A 300-year musical journey unfolded in Coronation on Feb. 15 as the piano duo Piano Heist took the stage.
Lifelong friends Nico Rhodes and Patrick Courtin performed for an audience of around 160 people, delivering an evening of captivating music alongside a catered supper on a cool February night.
As is tradition, the meal was provided by Anne’s Country Cooking, featuring prime rib, horseradish-glazed potatoes, red pepper jelly-glazed carrots, taco salad, marinated vegetable salad, and a variety of desserts.
The event opened its doors around 5:30 p.m., with supper served at 6 p.m. Rhodes and Courtin began their performance at 7:30 p.m., playing for nearly two hours, including a 20-minute intermission.
Their repertoire featured music from some of history’s greatest composers, such as Bach and Chopin. The performance then transitioned into modern times, with the duo playing The Phantom of the Opera and the Hockey Night in Canada theme.
Adding a unique twist to the show, a representative from “Divine Intervention Management” would periodically “call” the duo with instructions on which pieces to perform next.
The final performance of the 2024-25 Coronation Performing Arts season will feature Rum Ragged, a Celtic swing group, on March 29. Additionally, the 2025-26 lineup will be unveiled during that event.
