As the market becomes saturated with new hardware, truly unique products are becoming increasingly rare.
Sonicware, however, continues to stand out with its distinct offerings. Their LIVEN series features unconventional and colorful synths, including bass synths and specialty instruments like those designed for “retro game music.” While they share a common design language, they look and feel like nothing else in the industry.
CyDrums takes things even further, breaking away from the LIVEN aesthetic and the conventional drum machine look. Marketed as a “neo-hyperactive drum machine” (one that Joe should endorse), CyDrums is a digital drum synthesizer powered by dual wavetable oscillators. It features an 8-track, 128-step sequencer and includes 64 original wavetables, each consisting of up to 256 single-cycle waveforms.
With CyDrums, users have full control over start and end positions, playback directions, modes, speed, and curves. The device comes preloaded with 520 ready-to-use presets and allows users to store up to 128 patterns per project.
Despite looking nothing like a Korg Volca, CyDrums falls into the same category of compact beat machines. Its vertical design and small form factor make it roughly the size of an open hand.
Sonicware has taken a unique approach to launching CyDrums, offering an early pre-order discount of $100 off its $499 retail price. The initial batches will be shipped in limited quantities.
