Pianos belong everywhere—that’s the guiding principle of Piano Cleveland Live, a free concert series presented by the local arts nonprofit, Piano Cleveland. While their signature event, the triennial Cleveland International Piano Competition, takes place in a formal concert hall, the organization believes the instrument’s impact extends far beyond traditional settings. Now in its third year, Piano Cleveland Live brings the piano out of the concert hall and into public spaces like the Cleveland Museum of Art’s atrium for lunchtime performances and various pubs around the city for evening concerts.
The 2025 series kicked off with a performance by CIM graduate and Piano Cleveland Laureate, Arseniy Gusev, who captivated the audience with selections from his upcoming album, Witraż. Accompanied by violinist Shannon Lee, he played at Forest City Brewery, earning an overwhelmingly positive response.
“Internationally-known pianists performing in these settings—it’s a double treat,” says longtime Piano Cleveland supporter Peta Moskowitz. “It’s a wonderful opportunity to experience music up close in a truly personal way.”
More performances are already scheduled. In March, Piano Cleveland’s Artistic Director and 2007 CIPC medalist, Yaron Kohlberg, will take the stage alongside Danish cellist Toke Møldrup at the Cleveland Museum of Art for a lunchtime concert.
In April, CIPC alum Zhu Wang will return for two performances—one at the museum and another the following night at Hofbräuhaus Cleveland, where he will perform with fellow musicians. Mexican pianist Daniela Liebman will take the stage in May, first with a solo performance at the museum’s atrium and then in a concert at BrewDog Outpost, where she will be joined by Baldwin Wallace faculty members.
