Gibson has revealed a new limited-edition Eric Clapton 1958 Les Paul Custom guitar, with only 150 units available. This exclusive release replicates the iconic guitar Clapton used during his time with Cream, up until 1979 when he gifted it to fellow guitarist Albert Lee.
As detailed in the guitar’s description, “In 1979, Clapton gave the guitar to the legendary Albert Lee, who still plays it to this day, continuing to find inspiration in its sound.”
Crafted from solid mahogany and topped with an ebony fretboard, each guitar provides a smooth, timeless feel. The artisans add subtle wear marks, creating an authentic “played-in” appearance that mirrors years of use.
The guitar features three unpotted Custombuckers, delivering a rich and dynamic tone. Staying true to the original, the middle pickup’s screws are positioned towards the neck, and the wiring includes CTS 500k audio pots paired with paper-in-oil capacitors.
Every guitar comes with two pickguards—one of which is a special edition signed by both Clapton and Lee. It also includes a wooden display box for safekeeping. The package is completed with a Duck Brothers-style case, providing both protection and vintage flair.
In addition, the package features a black leather strap, a Gibson Custom switch plate medallion, and a photo book highlighting Chuck Stewart’s iconic images, along with certificates of authenticity.
Guitarists can purchase one of these legendary instruments for $19,999 through the official Gibson website or at Gibson Garage locations in Nashville and London.
