More than 2,000 local 4th-grade students were treated to a free performance of Yamato: The Drummers of Japan at the Coronado Performing Arts Center.
The show was part of the Friends of the Coronado’s “Reach for the Stars” initiative, which brings cultural arts performances to the theater each year, offering children the opportunity to experience live performances. The project has been ongoing since 2001.
Beth Howard, Director of Friends of the Coronado, shared, “This is a unique chance for children to experience not only the beauty of the Coronado Theatre but also a world-class, fully staged performance. It’s an opportunity to explore a different culture. Taiko drumming, with its roots dating back to the 5th century in Japan, is about celebration, rejuvenation, and building spirit for the Japanese people over hundreds of years.”
The Coronado will also host another free Yamato performance tonight at 6:30 p.m., open to the general public.
