The Red Hot Chili Peppers are reportedly shopping their music catalog for a staggering $350 million and may already have found a buyer.
According to Billboard, the band holds the rights to 11 of their studio albums and other projects released under Warner Music. However, it remains unclear whether they own the rights to their first four albums, which were released by EMI. The catalog is estimated to generate approximately $26 million annually. A source has suggested that RHCP might be close to finalizing a deal with Warner Music Group.
In addition to this potential sale, Anthony Kiedis and the band sold their publishing rights to Hipgnosis Songs in 2021 for around $140 million. If this new deal goes through, the band could earn nearly $500 million from their entire music catalog.
For context, Bruce Springsteen sold his music catalog for $500 million in 2021, and Pink Floyd’s back catalog was sold for $400 million in 2024. Last year, Queen’s music catalog was purchased for an eye-watering $1.27 billion, with Sony Music acquiring all three of these iconic catalogs.
