Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, an organization dedicated to providing financial and medical assistance to musicians and music industry professionals in need, has announced the relaunch of a fund to support electro-pop artist and actor Viola Odette Harlow.
Harlow, who was diagnosed in 2019 with a series of serious health conditions including Prinzmetal Angina Heart Disease (Coronary Artery Spasms), Lupus, AFIB, Atrial Tachycardia, EDS, Hashimoto’s Disease, Anemia, and Asthma, has faced a worsening of her health in recent weeks, exacerbated by the wildfires that ravaged parts of Los Angeles in January.
According to Sweet Relief, Harlow’s recent stay in the Cardiac ICU to stabilize her condition has resulted in over $150,000 in medical debt, in addition to the ongoing costs for medications, tests, and hospitalizations—some of which are not covered by her insurance.
“I keep waiting to feel better, or hoping for some unexpected residual payment, but things have only gotten worse. I’m letting my body down by not being able to afford the proper treatment I need. I only have one set of arteries and micro vessels, and their damage is hell enough. I don’t want it to get worse. These problems are treatable, but it feels overwhelming, and being bedridden with a loss of income is making everything seem impossible,” Harlow shared.
Bill Bennett, President of Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, said, “Viola is an extraordinary artist, and her healthcare challenges reflect what many musicians face—though hers are particularly extreme. Our goal is to raise enough money so she can focus on creating more music without having to choose between necessary medical treatment and basic living expenses like food and rent.”
At 37, Harlow has been a part of the music scene since she was just six years old. Her 2023 album, Main Character, released under her music project Glüme, was named one of the year’s best albums by Rolling Stone.
