In a recent video, KING DIAMOND guitarist Andy LaRocque unveiled his new LTD ALR-II signature guitar from ESP. Based on the Horizon body shape, the ALR-II features neck-thru-body construction and a 24.75″ scale. The guitar is finished in a striking See Thru Purple, showcasing its figured quilted maple top, and is complemented by a classic teardrop headstock. It also includes a three-piece maple neck, a Macassar ebony fingerboard with a compound radius, and 24 extra-jumbo stainless steel frets. Additionally, the guitar boasts Luminlay side markers, a Floyd Rose 1000 double-locking tremolo, and a set of Seymour Duncan TB-4 JB Trembucker (bridge) and STK-S6 Custom Stack Plus (neck) passive pickups. The guitar comes with an ESP hardshell form-fit case.
LaRocque, known for his exceptional skills as a producer, songwriter, and the lead guitarist of the legendary heavy metal band KING DIAMOND, has influenced generations with his impeccable legato technique, lightning-fast speed, and ability to craft memorable melodies in his solos. His distinctive playing style has contributed significantly to the band’s signature sound.
Founded in 1985 by vocalist King Diamond, guitarists LaRocque and Michael Denner, bassist Timi Hansen, and drummer Mikkey Dee, KING DIAMOND is a Danish/Swedish heavy metal band with a rich legacy. The band, formed after Diamond, Denner, and Hansen left MERCYFUL FATE, released their debut album, “Fatal Portrait,” in 1986. Since then, they have released twelve studio albums, most of which are concept albums, along with two live albums, two EPs, five compilations, and five singles.
Over the years, more than fifteen musicians have passed through the ranks of KING DIAMOND, with King Diamond and LaRocque remaining the only constant members. In 1987, the band released their second album, “Abigail,” which became their first concept album. Although KING DIAMOND faced a hiatus in the early 1990s when Diamond reunited with MERCYFUL FATE, the band reformed in 1994. Since then, they have continued to record and tour, with their current lineup featuring King Diamond, LaRocque, guitarist Mike Wead, drummer Matt Thompson, and bassist Pontus Egberg.
