The Grateful Guitars Foundation (GGF), a nonprofit dedicated to providing world-class musical instruments to talented musicians keeping the jam band tradition alive, has announced the addition of guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jason Sinay to its board.
Based in Los Angeles, Sinay has built a decades-long career working with Keith Richards, Neil Young, Bob Weir, Jerry Lee Lewis, Jackson Browne, Lucinda Williams, Jeff Lynne, Joe Bonamassa, and Ivan Neville, among others. He is best known for his role in The Dirty Knobs, the rock band led by Mike Campbell of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Sinay shared his enthusiasm for the new role:
“A world-class instrument in the hands of a good musician can change lives instantly. These instruments inspire musicians and connect directly to the souls of the audience. I see myself as a worker among workers, ready to contribute my time and energy to this greater cause. With my experience in philanthropy, I hope to bring valuable insight into the 501(c)(3) nonprofit world.”
GGF Founder Andy Logan expressed excitement about Sinay’s appointment:
“We are ecstatic to welcome Jason Sinay to the Grateful Guitars Foundation board. His deep industry knowledge as a professional musician is invaluable to our mission. Beyond being a pro player, Jason is also a passionate guitar collector and a truly kind-hearted individual dedicated to making a positive impact. We look forward to taking our musical instruction support to the next level with his help.”
Founded by Andy Logan in 2019, the Grateful Guitars Foundation not only provides instruments to musicians but also supports music education in schools, fostering the next generation of jam band players through partnerships with educational organizations.
Last year, GGF hosted its second annual benefit concert at San Francisco’s Great American Music Hall on August 13—49 years to the day since the Grateful Dead’s legendary performance at the venue. The concert featured Melvin Seals (Jerry Garcia Band), John Kadlecik (Dark Star Orchestra, FURTHUR), Barry Sless (Bobby Weir & Wolf Bros), David Hidalgo and Steve Berlin (Los Lobos), and more.
The event followed the release of Grateful: The Music Plays the Band, a 17-track compilation featuring some of the Grateful Dead’s greatest songs performed by members of the band’s extended musical family, including Oteil Burbridge (Dead & Company), Dark Star Orchestra, and others.
With Sinay joining the board, GGF continues its mission to empower musicians, preserve musical traditions, and expand music education for future generations.
