The Vienna Symphonic Library (VSL) has introduced Concert D-274 Essentials, a virtual version of the Steinway & Sons Concert Grand D-274, Hamburg model. This new release is a streamlined, entry-level edition of the previously launched Synchron Concert D-274, delivering the renowned nuances of the instrument in an accessible digital format.
Selected by virtuoso Stefan Mendl of the Vienna Piano Trio, VSL’s own Steinway & Sons Concert D-274 is recognized as one of the finest pianos in Vienna. It has been meticulously sampled in Stage A of Vienna Synchron Stage, a space known for its Hollywood-proven acoustics. This concert grand piano captivates with its rich, resonant, and detailed tone, making it a preferred choice for pianists worldwide.
The Concert D-274 is a masterpiece in both design and sound. To authentically capture its full expressive range, VSL’s engineers developed a high-precision motion-control system, utilizing a solenoid-operated, noise-free “robot finger.” This technology allows for ultra-precise control over key down-strokes and release movements. Although the Essentials version features fewer velocity layers than the premium Synchron Concert D-274 collection, it still delivers an exceptionally realistic playing experience. Recorded in the spacious main hall of Vienna Synchron Stage, this setting enhances the warm, transparent, and natural sound of the instrument.
The software includes expertly designed presets, enabling users to craft their ideal Steinway sound. The Synchron Piano Player interface provides extensive control over key dynamics, resonance, filtering, and even individual note adjustments. Users can fine-tune body resonance, sympathetic resonance, algorithmic reverb, pitch, volume, and EQ per note through an intuitive and user-friendly layout.
Notably, Concert D-274 Essentials is included as a bonus library in VSL’s Studio Special Edition Vol. 1.
Currently, Concert D-274 Essentials is available at an introductory price of €89 (regular price: €139), with an upgrade path to the premium Synchron Concert D-274 collection.
