Marky Ramone, the legendary drummer from the Ramones, will be heading to New Jersey this Friday to support a cause close to his heart.
Ramone, who was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame with the Ramones in 2002, joined the iconic punk band in 1978. At 72, the Brooklyn native will appear at New Concepts for Living in Paramus, a center for adults with disabilities, for a charity event.
The event holds special significance for Ramone, who is involved with New Concepts through his longtime manager Harvey Leeds, a Haworth resident. Leeds’ daughter, Annie, has Rett syndrome, a rare neurological disorder that affects language and motor skills. Annie attends the day program at New Concepts, which the fundraiser will support.
During the charity event, Ramone will host a drumming demonstration, share rare Ramones videos and photos, and participate in a Q&A session. There will also be a charity auction, with unique items such as Ramone’s drumhead art and an exclusive studio session with the punk rock legend available for bidding.
Ramone expressed his support for the cause, stating, “Harvey’s advocacy for his daughter and others with special needs is truly inspiring, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to support such an important cause. This is a chance to use music to come together, make a difference, and celebrate a community that deserves all the care, attention, and respect in the world.”
At 72, Ramone is one of the few surviving members of the Ramones. Tragically, all the original members of the Queens band — Joey Ramone, Johnny Ramone, Dee Dee Ramone, and Tommy Ramone — have passed away. In 2011, the band was honored with a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award.
