This Valentine’s night, Chichester Cathedral will be graced by one of the world’s leading pianists, Richard Uttley. His performance will feature a rich blend of music, including Beethoven’s Sonatas, Gershwin’s Embraceable You, and more, all set against the romantic backdrop of hundreds of flickering candles on stage.
Renowned for his “musical intelligence and pristine facility” (International Record Review) and “tumultuous performance” (Daily Telegraph), Richard Uttley has become a prominent figure among the UK’s top pianists. His impressive list of achievements includes winning first prize at the British Contemporary Piano Competition and securing a spot in the Young Classical Artists Trust (YCAT) International Auditions. Uttley is also a passionate advocate of contemporary music, regularly premiering new works by leading composers and commissioning fresh pieces that are shaping the future of piano music.
Uttley’s international career has taken him to prestigious venues and festivals across the globe, including Wigmore Hall, Queen Elizabeth Hall, Auditorium du Louvre (Paris), Elbphilharmonie (Hamburg), and the Concertgebouw (Amsterdam). His performances are often broadcast on BBC Radio 3, BBC Four, Classic FM, and Sky Arts. In addition to his solo work, Uttley is also a committed chamber musician, collaborating with some of the world’s finest artists and ensembles.
